There will be a town hall meeting in Scott Hall of the Johnson County Fair Grounds today at noon for residents who have been affected by the flood. State Representatives Woody Burton, David Frizzell and Milo Smith will accompany FEMA officials in attendance of the meeting. WTHR has more information.

Frizzell talks property taxes with local voters

State Representative David Frizzell joined State Senators Waltz and Walker in Greenwood recently to talk property taxes. The event was sponsored by the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce.

Indiana faces a bleak financial future unless a resolution is found on the property tax issue and government curtails spending.

Those were the sentiments of local lawmakers this week during a legislative breakfast hosted by the Greater Greenwood Chamber of Commerce.

"It seems that we never get to getting it right, and obviously I think there is a lot of credence about getting rid of it," Rep. Dave Frizzell, R-Indianapolis, said about property taxes during the gathering Tuesday morning at Valle Vista Golf & Conference Center.

"It's just a question of how to get rid of it. We still have a lot to do," Frizzell added before bolting to a 9 a.m. legislative session on House Bill 1001 -- Gov. Mitch Daniels' tax reform plan.

Daniels' plan -- the property tax rock star thus far -- would cap homeowners' bills at 1 percent of their home's assessed value; cap rental properties at 2 percent and businesses at 3 percent; and increase the state sales tax from 6 percent to 7 percent.

"I would say it's probably going to be a mixture of Daniels' plan and probably some of our ideas," said Frizzell, about what ultimately could pass as reform.
